Our Matisse Leaves cashmere art intarsia is long, slinky and sexy. The pointelle sleeves have a tiny leaf pattern that offsets the big drama on the sweater front. The leaves are well-placed: they do not interfere with the bust and they camouflagethe possibility of a tummy.
The art on this style represents the paper cut-outs that Matisse developed in the last decade of his life. His assistants would would color the shapes with gouche and at the direction of the artist pin them into position for wall murals. These works can also be seen in stained glass windows. From titles assigned by the artist, it is apparent that the shapes were inspired by flowers like the acanthus and snow drop. So they are not really leaves.
